High-speed Internet subscriptions soar in rural North Carolina.

There has been a 10-fold increase in the number of subscribers to high speed Internet service since December 1999. Individuals and businesses are seeing more and more uses for broadband as they learn more how technology can work for rural, sometimes remote locations.


 

Rural businesses use the Internet more.

A recent survey of North Carolina businesses found that 83 percent of computer users in the most rural counties, those without a population center of 10,000 people, are connected to the Internet. This is compared to urban businesses with only 79 percent computers connected.
