The Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship is involved in four projects to expand entrepreneurial opportunities in rural North Carolina. Check back periodically to read about new initiatives.

North Carolina's Rural Entrepreneurship Development System
The institute leads a team of business development partners in an effort to improve and broaden entrepreneurial support services for rural North Carolinians who are starting or growing businesses or social enterprises.

  • New Opportunities for Workers (NOW)
    The NOW entrepreneurial training program is designed to help dislocated manufacturing workers develop the skills to start and run a business.


    Community Entrepreneurship Demonstration
    This pilot project is testing community-based approaches to assist business startups and expansions in four multi-county regions and seven rural communities around the state.


    Entrepreneurial Incubators
    State grants are helping rural communities build and equip small business incubators.
