Mission:

To advise the governor, the legislature and the principal state departments on the special needs of women in North Carolina by identifying and assessing needs; collecting and distributing information; acting as a resource for the county and region councils/commissions for women; offering services to women in crisis; cooperating with groups and individuals working on behalf of women and working toward expanding equal opportunities in employment and education for women.

Distinguished Women of North Carolina Awards.  Held annually in March, this banquet recognizes women in six categories: Arts, Business/Profession, Education, Government, Physical Fitness/Recreation and Volunteerism.

N.C. Council for Women Health Manual.  Manual providing information for women interested in making informed decisions about their health. Available free on-line.

N.C. Council for Women Newsletter.  Published quarterly, the newsletter addresses current issues of concern to women, highlights local programs and provides a calendar of events across the state. Available free on-line.

Positive Directions.  This manual is designed to teach children who have been victims of family violence how to cope. It is an educational tool which has been successfully used to work with young people in domestic violence shelters across the state.

The Status of Women in North Carolina.  This status report covers eight major areas of interest for women in the state. The report contains current statistics, reports on trends in major policy areas and projects future developments in these areas of public policy.
