Mission:
To lead in the development of downtown revitalization in North Carolina by helping Main Street communities enhance their capacity to manage change in their downtown areas and by serving as the state's focal point for downtown revitalization information and education. The Main Street approach involves not only recruitment of new businesses, rehabilitation of buildings and expansion of parking, but also improving economic management, strengthening public participation and making downtowns a fun place to visit.

Technical Assistance:
Program Development. Assists communities in developing a local program to manage the process of revitalization, including organizational development, board training, and assistance in the development of goals, objectives and work plans.
Program Implementation. Provides technical assistance to communities in the areas of organizational development, real estate development, marketing, business recruitment, promotions, design, among others. The Main Street designer provides consultation and renderings to property owners to encourage facade renovation.
Networking. Through participation in the N.C. Main Street program, communities have access not only to other in-state programs, but also to over 800 communities across the country that are participating in Main Street. By sharing the lessons learned, communites can avoid many of the pitfalls and invest their resources more wisely. The N.C. Main Street Center functions as a clearinghouse for ideas and success stories from which all can benefit.
