Preparing young adults for careers through on-the-job experience
HCC New Generation Careers
Halifax Community College will prepare young adults to enroll in nursing, maintenance or computer courses. The project will serve 52 young people and place 44 in jobs in Halifax and Northampton counties.
AWX Certification Center
A grant to Isothermal Community College will enable the school's welding program to become accredited through the American Welding Society, enhancing the credentials of its graduates. The project will serve 120 students from Cleveland, Polk and Rutherford counties and place 60 in jobs.
Generation YZ Careers
The Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce will train 50 young adults and place 35 in jobs. The project will blend on-the-job experience with other training to assist unemployed and underemployed workers.
Electric Lineman Technology
Stanly Community College will train students in Anson, Montgomery, Stanly and Union counties in how to install and repair power lines. The project will provide training for 50 young adults and place 40 in jobs.
Industry Skills Training
The City of Wilson will provide on-the-job training in the repair and conservation of sculptures to 36 young adults and place 20 in jobs.
Manufacturing Careers Initiative
Yadkin County, working with the Town of Elkin, will address employability and job turnover issues, implement workforce recruitment strategies and provide on-the-job work experience. It will work with 120 unemployed and underemployed young adults in Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties, placing 60 in jobs.
