Rural Center announces $5 million in grants


The N.C. Rural Economic Development Center has awarded 67 grants totaling $5.2 million to create jobs and address clean water needs throughout North Carolina. The grants will assist communities in 46 rural counties and create 375 jobs. The center’s board of directors approved the grants Aug. 25. The grants were made possible by appropriations of the N.C. Entrepreneurship seminar offered


The Rural Center’s Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship is offering an intensive daylong seminar Oct. 21 in Windsor. Energizing Entrepreneurship Express (E2) is designed to help rural leaders in northeastern North Carolina promote entrepreneurship in their communities. Read more.

 

Print version of Rural Resource Guide available

The center has released the print version of its Rural Resource Guide, a popular online directory of nearly 200 agencies and organizations that provide financial and technical assistance for rural North Carolina communities. The publication contains information on federal, state and local programs that provide grants, loans, training, educational opportunities and other resources. The guide is available for $25 plus shipping and handling.

N.C. farmers to benefit from $18 million fund


Gov. Beverly Perdue has announced an $18.4 million Family Farm Innovation Fund to help North Carolina farmers rebound from the recession. Under the fund, five state and federal programs will help farmers with projects related to energy, value-added production and new sources of income. Read the press release. Entrepreneurship Summit, September 19-20


Registration has opened for the 2010 N.C. Entrepreneurship Summit. This year's summit, "Keys to North Carolina’s Economic Future," will be held Sept. 19-20 in Wilmington. Grants available for job-generating projects

The N.C. Rural Economic Development Center is making nearly $24 million in grants available to create jobs in North Carolina’s 85 rural counties. The grants will support job-generating building reuse and water-sewer projects. Read the news release.
