Delivering resources for businesses
Rural communities will prosper only to the extent they can build and sustain a strong private sector. Businesses create both jobs and wealth for individuals and the community. Several Rural Center programs address specific areas of business development.
The Agricultural Advancement Consortium promotes the benefits of a strong farm sector and considers new ways to increase farm profitability. It conducts original research and awards grants for research and demonstration projects with potential to create new products or markets and to improve agricultural practices.
The Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship is dedicated to helping North Carolina and its communities develop policies and programs that encourage the start-up and growth of locally owned companies, of all shapes and sizes.
Two innovative programs provide capital for business start-ups and expansions. The N.C. Small Business Credit Initiative offers two options to help lenders consider loans that otherwise fall just outside conventional underwriting standards. The Microenterprise Loan Program helps individuals become self-sufficient through self-employment and the growth of very small businesses.
The Rural Center is pleased to be a partner in Business Link North Carolina, an access point to services and other offerings provided by state-supported agencies. To reach a BLNC business consultant, visit www.blnc.gov or call toll-free, 1-800-228-8443.
