RALEIGH -- The N.C. Rural Center announces a grant of $125,000 to Burke Development Inc. The grant will help fund a new initiative to retain and create textile jobs in the Catawba Valley region.
The Western North Carolina Textile Network will provide support for companies, establish a regional textile brand and coordinate resources and leadership to expedite textile manufacturing in the region. Four organizations in the Catawba Valley region — Burke Development Inc., Opportunity Threads, The Manufacturing Solutions Center and Rural Support Partners — have joined together to create the network. The project seeks to spur renewed growth in an industry with deep roots in the state.
The center's board of directors approved the grant Feb. 27.
