Rural Economic Development Organization
The Rural Economic Development Organization, known as "REDO," is the alumni association of the Rural Economic Development Institute. REDO was established in 1989 by the institute's first graduating class.
The purpose of REDO is to advance the capabilities of its members for promoting economic development in their respective regions and in all rural areas of North Carolina. The organization is committed to providing its members with continued opportunities for education, and networking. A listserv allows members to share ideas and advice on a regular basis.
REDO sponsors an annual membership meeting in the fall, which provides members with workshops and speakers on timely subjects. The highlight of the annual meeting is the presentation of the Outstanding Rural Leadership Award, which recognizes exceptional leadership efforts by an individual who has graduated from the Rural Center's leadership program. REDO holds other workshops and training sessions during the year based on the needs and interests of its members.
REDO is governed by a 12-member board of directors, elected by the membership at the annual meeting.
Eligibility
Regular membership is limited to graduates of the Rural Economic Development Institute and of the Rural Leaders Program, a local leadership training program conducted by the center in its early years. REDO welcomes inquiries about alternative types of membership from others who support its goals.
Membership Dues
Dues are set annually by the REDO board. Current dues for regular members are $30.00.
