Patty Skarlinsky is the Latino Outreach AmeriCorps VISTA for the NC Rural Center.
Born in Miami, Florida, Patty is no stranger to the heat. She lived in Miami all her life until she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2016. She graduated from Florida International University in 2015 with a degree in international relations and political science. She also received a certificate in Latin American Studies and National Security Studies. While pursuing her undergrad degree, she interned at a joint program with Florida International University and the Department of State researching water security and conflict mitigation.
After moving to North Carolina, Patty was accepted to North Carolina State University’s Masters of Public Administration Program. She began her MPA Program in 2017 and will also be pursuing a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate. She plans to marry the two fields in her work at the NC Rural Center to better serve the Latinx community of rural North Carolina.
Patty lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her boyfriend and two dogs. In her spare time, she likes to go on hikes with her dogs, discover a new café or brewery, and watch the latest superhero blockbuster or TV series.
