Shannon serves as the senior program manager for entrepreneurship at the Rural Center. She joined the staff in June of 2017 to lead programs to strengthen entrepreneurship and expand microlending to small businesses in rural North Carolina. Shannon studied biology at NC State and earned a master’s in public health from UNC-Chapel Hill, with a focus on community environmental health. After working at the Environmental Protection Agency for several years, she changed course and earned her MBA from NC State in 2017, focusing on entrepreneurship and marketing, because she believes in the power of business to make a positive impact.
Originally from Eastern NC and with family all over the state, Shannon is happy that her winding career path has led her to a place where she can serve rural North Carolinians every day. Shannon lives in Raleigh with her husband and their new daughter… and their dog, two cats, and five chickens. When she’s not at work or at home cuddling her baby girl, she’s probably at the gym lifting weights.
