Since 1987, the Rural Center has worked to improve the quality of life for the state’s rural people and places. We operate with the core belief that our rural communities have inherent cultural value and are vital to the overall economic health of our state.
We recognize that the changing landscape of rural North Carolina brings with it significant challenges, but we also believe in the resiliency of our state’s rural people and their dedicated stewardship of the communities they call home.
The NC Rural Center’s mission is to develop, promote, and implement sound economic strategies to improve the quality of life of rural North Carolinians. We serve the state’s 80 rural counties, with a special focus on individuals with low to moderate incomes and communities with limited resources.
Over the past three decades, the Rural Center has remained steadfast in the belief that the vision for the future of rural North Carolina is a positive one. This optimism was championed and shaped by thousands of thoughtful and resourceful people working with us over the years. We are grateful to these passionate advocates, including leaders at the local, state, and national levels who continue to dedicate their time and energies to rural advancement.
In 2017, we updated our brand identity to reflect the energy, progress, diversity, and innovation of the communities we serve. Our new logo is modern, vibrant, confident, and timeless, and honors traditions rooted in North Carolina’s rural places while optimistically looking to the promise of the future.
