John serves as a senior advisor at the NC Rural Center, where he leads organization-wide policy, communications, and development initiatives. He joined the Rural Center team in 2016 as the Center’s first director of the Rural Counts advocacy program. Prior to the Rural Center, John worked in community relations and philanthropy for PNC Bank’s Eastern Carolinas Market, and in civic engagement and program development for the Institute for Emerging Issues at NC State University.
A native of Sanford, John received his bachelor’s degree from NC State University and his master’s degree from Harvard University. He serves on the board of Arts NC State, plays handbells at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, and attends any theatre production he can find.
