The Affordable Connectivity Program was a federal program established in December 2021 to help eligible households in the U.S. pay for monthly internet subscriptions. Funding for the program officially ran out June 1, halting the program and the benefits received by households. At the peak of the program, over 900,000 households in North Carolina were enrolled in the program, with a higher proportion being found in rural counties. Research shows that many households enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program are expected to experience service disruptions with the end of the program, underscoring the need for sustained funding. This report investigates where the Affordable Connectivity Program stands today, and how many rural North Carolinians are affected by the end of the program.
