Jackson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1872 in Wilson County under the leadership of Reverend Andrew Jackson. When the congregation outgrew its original church building on Barnes Street in Wilson, they purchased a lot at the corner of Nash and Pender streets. The American educator and activist Booker T. Washington laid the cornerstone for the Romanesque-style building in 1913 while in Wilson during his southern education tour. The church is one of five in Wilson that have partnered with the Rural Center for a joint project through our Connect Church program.
