Rural Internet Access Authority Created

  • The General Assembly creates the Rural Internet Access Authority and designates the Rural Center to provide administrative oversight. The authority is later named e-NC, the forerunner of the state Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity within the North Carolina Department of Information Technology.
  • The Agricultural Advancement Consortium is established at the Rural Center to develop a shared vision for farming in North Carolina and to improve farming’s long-term vitality.
